Artist Statement

My painting works deal with connecting patches of color, stains and shapes and the relationships between them. My paintings touches the inner soul and humanity, family relationships and questions regarding existentialism and sustainability. My inspiration starts with observation and a search for identity. Most of my connections are made intuitively, in my head, where the thoughts are faster than the hand. I work very quickly, always with music, so as not to lose the developing ideas I have. This may be the explanation to my wide, sweeping and expressive brush strokes that are my signature markings. Painting for me is an endless research that expresses itself on a large canvas with vivid colors. The research develops from painting to painting and raises more questions. My aspiration as an artist is to intrigue the onlooker. I want to stimulate people to look again at the painting with a deeper and wider view. Naming a painting becomes difficult as I do not want to confine the viewer to my perspective and allow the freedom to choose what is seen. I have a lot of curiosity and will to experiment with other and different mediums than canvas and paint. I always want to try sculpting, printing, and other mediums but my true passion is for staining and painting and at the end it most always wins over other experiences. Painting is existential for me and also a way of expression that helps me release what I have gathered over time.
